Who is better Beyonce or Rihanna?

Better is obviously a completely, and utterly SUBJECTIVE when it comes to music.

I've worked with both of them and their presence, musicality and demeanors are very different.

Beyonce is absolutely more of a church singer in the traditional sense. Her phrasing, melodic choices and vocal runs are most definitely part of that idiom of music. That being said she has a distinctive voice and a musical vocabulary that is very much her own thing. Being beautiful never hurt either. She stands out clearly and this is evidenced by her massive continued success.

Rhi Rhi is a pure pop star in the very best sense. Beautiful AND talented. If she was half the singer she'd still be huge but the fact is she's a very underrated singer. Beyonce’s vocal ability is often on display and is much more front and center in her music. Rhi’s vocals are more subtle but have an innate quality that is extremely rare. She inhabits a record. Her swag and the emotional content of her singing are not something that just anyone can do. Despite being pop, there's lots of depth to her delivery. I think that gets lost in the spectacle of being a mega star.

I think the comparisons of ‘who's better’ in any context, music, sports, etc becomes a bit hollow as you get older. You begin to realize that simple comparisons fall very short in the attempt to describe reality and are really only you're own personal biases and tastes being expressed. There simply is no objective reality in this sense.

I’d take Rihanna over Beyonce any day. I praise Beyonce over being successful but her songs are not my type, while especially Anti by Rihanna is full of my type of songs. Plus I just don’t feel right watching Beyonce’s moves and her performing. She acts unnatural and it looks like she practiced what she was going to say on stage, she looks all planned in every movement, in her dance moves etc. Ofcourse I know that professionally every singer practices the dance beforehand and speeches are also practiced but it is just too obvious with Beyonce. She is a perfectionist and that is the reason she can’t act natural or make it look like natural and unplanned on stage.

Rihanna on the other hand is imperfect. She is fun to be around, beautiful, has a perfect voice and a cool personality overall. She is the sum of all things that make a person a cool one, and cool singer. Also I like that imperfection in her because I relate to it more and she feels more natural than Beyonce when performing. She sometimes runs out of breath and lets the audience sing the parts of the song for instance, yes maybe it is bad for those who actually paid money to see her in person, but actually I liked her more after seeing her imperfect and authentic side on live performances. She doesn’t promise to be performing so well to an extent that it feels so professional, all planned and feels like a Goddess, certainly not one of us. That she meets fans backstage, DM them on social media also makes me love her more. I don’t deny that sometimes RiRi thinks too highly of herself too but this is how celebrities are or how they are made to feel.

On the other hand the thing I don’t like about Beyonce is her acting like she is the center of the universe, having her home videos on display on stage like we all want to know about her home life madly, lately donning like a Goddess just because she has been pregnant, posting poses on social media accounts in a glorious way like without a doubt we all must be thinking she is the center of the universe. All those ‘big’things don’t help my liking either. I like celebrities especially artists when they are down-to-earth and keep their chin high, acting courteously at the same time, definitely feeling a sense of pride but not being obnoxious. Also when they’re successful at what they are doing.

So, I respect Beyonce’s work ethics and perfectionism but it would be best if her attemps resulted in acting more simply and less fancier, not in hanging around like a pregnant princess who is famous and rich so that she would give fans something they can relate more to. Ofcourse there are people who can relate to Beyonce just fine, I respect them too.
